1. Purpose of the Policy

The purpose of this policy is to promote responsible management, reporting, preservation and appropriate sharing of research data associated with manuscripts submitted to or published by Advanced Scientific Research.

Research data should be collected, processed, analyzed, stored and reported in a manner consistent with accepted scholarly and ethical practices.

Core Principle Authors should maintain sufficient research records to support the credibility of their findings and, where ethically and legally possible, enable appropriate verification or reuse of research data.

2. Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to research data associated with manuscripts submitted to Advanced Scientific Research, including quantitative, qualitative, experimental, observational, survey, computational and other forms of scholarly data.

📈

Quantitative Data

Numerical datasets, measurements, statistical observations and survey results.

📝

Qualitative Data

Interviews, observations, transcripts, field notes and other qualitative materials.

💻

Computational Data

Code-generated datasets, simulations, computational outputs and analytical results.

3. Research Data Integrity

Authors are responsible for ensuring that research data presented in a manuscript are accurate and have not been intentionally fabricated, falsified or improperly manipulated.

Where applicable, authors should maintain original records, research instruments, coding procedures, analysis files and other documentation necessary to understand how the results were obtained.

  • Data should be recorded accurately.
  • Data should not be fabricated or falsified.
  • Material alterations to datasets should be documented where appropriate.
  • Analytical procedures should be appropriately described.
  • Data exclusions or significant processing decisions should be explained where relevant.
Research Integrity The credibility of published findings depends on the integrity of the underlying research data and methods.

4. Research Data Management

Authors should use reasonable procedures for organizing, storing and protecting research data throughout the research lifecycle.

🗂

Organization

Data files should be organized in a manner that allows researchers to identify relevant datasets and versions.

💾

Storage

Important research data should be stored using appropriate and reasonably secure storage systems.

🔐

Security

Sensitive or confidential information should be protected against unauthorized access.

📝

Documentation

Relevant data-processing and analytical procedures should be documented sufficiently to understand the research.

5. Data Availability

Advanced Scientific Research encourages authors to make research data available whenever appropriate, subject to ethical, legal, confidentiality and intellectual-property considerations.

Recommended Data Availability Statement

Authors may include a statement explaining whether the underlying data are publicly available, available upon reasonable request, available through a repository, or subject to restrictions.

Examples

  • Publicly available: "The data supporting the findings of this study are available in a publicly accessible repository."
  • Available upon request: "Relevant data may be made available by the corresponding author upon reasonable request, subject to applicable restrictions."
  • Restricted: "Data are not publicly available because of ethical, confidentiality or legal restrictions."
  • No data generated: "This study did not generate or analyze new datasets."

6. Research Data Sharing

Data sharing can improve transparency, reproducibility and opportunities for further research. Authors are encouraged to share appropriate datasets where doing so is ethically and legally permissible.

When sharing data, authors should consider:

  • Privacy and confidentiality.
  • Participant consent.
  • Applicable laws and regulations.
  • Institutional research policies.
  • Intellectual-property considerations.
  • Third-party restrictions.
  • Appropriate attribution and licensing.
Responsible Sharing Data sharing should never compromise participant privacy, confidential information, legal obligations or ethical requirements.

7. Exceptions to Data Sharing

Advanced Scientific Research recognizes that some datasets cannot be openly shared. Appropriate restrictions may apply where data contain confidential, personally identifiable, sensitive or otherwise protected information.

Examples may include:

  • Personally identifiable participant information.
  • Confidential interviews or sensitive qualitative material.
  • Protected institutional information.
  • Data subject to contractual restrictions.
  • Data covered by intellectual-property restrictions.
  • Information for which sharing would violate applicable law or ethical approval conditions.

8. Privacy and Confidentiality

Authors must protect the privacy and confidentiality of research participants and other individuals whose data are used in research.

Personally identifiable information should not be publicly disclosed unless there is an appropriate ethical and legal basis for doing so.

Sensitive Data Authors should not upload or publish identifiable personal information in supplementary files, repositories or manuscript materials unless appropriate consent and legal or ethical authorization have been obtained.

9. Data Preservation and Retention

Authors should retain relevant research records for a reasonable period consistent with their institution, discipline, funder and applicable legal requirements.

Where appropriate, authors are encouraged to preserve datasets and supporting materials in reliable repositories or institutional systems.

10. Reproducibility and Transparency

Authors should provide sufficient methodological information for readers and researchers to understand how the reported findings were obtained.

Where relevant, authors are encouraged to provide:

  • Research instruments or questionnaires.
  • Relevant datasets or information about their availability.
  • Statistical procedures.
  • Computer code or analytical scripts where appropriate.
  • Details of data processing and transformation.
  • Relevant supplementary materials.
Reproducible Scholarship The availability of appropriate research materials can improve verification, reproducibility and the long-term value of published research.

11. Fabrication, Falsification and Manipulation

Advanced Scientific Research does not accept fabricated, falsified or deliberately misleading research data.

🚫

Fabrication

Inventing data, observations, participants, experiments or research results that did not occur.

🚫

Falsification

Manipulating research materials, data, procedures or results so that the research record is inaccurately represented.

🔍

Improper Manipulation

Data processing or image manipulation that materially misrepresents the underlying research evidence.

⚖

Editorial Action

Suspected serious data integrity concerns may be investigated under the journal's publication ethics procedures.

12. Author Responsibility

Authors are primarily responsible for the integrity, documentation and appropriate management of the data underlying their submitted research.
