Volume 4 | Issue 2 | Pages 91-97

Abstract

The Phase rule was proposed by J.W. Gibbs in 1874. According to the phase rule, “for any heterogeneous system in equilibrium
the sum of number of phases and degrees of freedom is greater than the number of components by two.”
Mathematically,
P + F = C + 2
F = C – P + 2
Where, P – Number of phases
F – Degrees of freedom
C – Number of component

Keywords

Phase Rule, Application to one component, system (water and sulphur)
